Using The Busway or Transjakarta

Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia. The most crowded city where lots of job seekers come to look for uncertainty, speculate the destiny using their fortune. I think of Jakarta is getting more cramped. Traffic jam everywhere, along the street is filled with the reckless vehicles. Don't expect for the newcomers, especially overseas peoples, to cross the street.

The government has tried reducing the traffic jam indeed by providing many kinds of public transportation, one of them is busway or Transjakarta. In my opinion, available routes of busway (corridor) is so many, we can reach out various important places by getting on the busway. For the newcomers who want to get around or visit a place in Jakarta, I suggest getting on the busway because of a cheap fare. Anyway, on this post, I want to share about how to use busway in Jakarta. I really hope it will be helpful for the newcomers.

You need to know first is the payment system. Payment of the busway uses e-ticket card that can be bought immediately all over the busway stations. Just talk to the ticket lady on the locket. The price is 40000 IDR (20000 IDR for the first saldo, 20000 IDR for the new card charge, and it is able to top up again). The card is used to pass the gate. Tap the card on the gate to open the barrier. The cost for every tap is 3500 IDR, you can go to any busway station and transit to anywhere.

Furthermore, we should know where our destination. Might be the routes map bellow can be helpful. Frequently our destination is located far enough from the nearest station. Btw, if you get trouble to find the nearest station, you can use the Wikimapia. As the sample, we wanna visit Grand Indonesia, so the nearest station is Tosari Station. Somehow, I often use the Wikimapia instead of Google maps.

What should we do if we need to switch the busway lines to reach our destination? Of course so easy, I give the sample from Gambir 1 to Ragunan. Then the line is Gambir 1 - Harmoni - Bendungan Hilir transit to Semanggi - Kuningan Barat transit to Kuningan Timur - Ragunan.

There are lots of directions in every transit station. In Harmoni station, if you will go toward to Bendungan Hilir, you should get in line at the Blok M entrance. As well as to the Kuningan Barat from Semanggi, you can get in line at the PGC or Pinang Ranti entrance. In case you don't understand what transit station is, it is two station that connected by the crossing bridge and you just cross it by walking. And then if we need to change the busway lines many times, do we need to tap the card again for 3500 IDR? Of course, we don't, provided that we don't come out the station.

  1. I took busway often before but not anymore. I couldn't stand the long hours waiting the busway to arrive and the crowd on the bus - it was breathless! The government should provide more busways in pick hours so that more people prefer to take busway than driving their own car.

    1. Iya sih busway itu mengerikan terutama jam berangkat dan pulang kerja, apalagi di harmoni central busway, there's no space available for you to take a deep breath, be grateful if you can

  2. I was using trans bus for a long a long a go. But now since I was using motorcycle, I don't using a bus trans anymore. It was IDR 2.500 for each. I feel motorcycle was still the most popular transportation for me. Thanks for your sharing.

  6. I used transjakarta (Why can't we call it TJ like TransJogja? It's simpler.) several times. It has its own way (busway) but I don't understand why it has to be that rush. It was so difficult to control my own body so I wouldn't fall down. I grabbed the iron bar panicky. It's the same with TJ here in Jogja. Whereas SSB Transit Singapore is friendlier for elderly and kids.
